Mary and the Angel

About two thousand years ago, in the town of Nazareth, lived a young woman called Mary. She was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter.

One day an angel appeared before Mary and told her that she had been chosen to have a baby; it would be a special baby that would be God's son. The angel told Mary that she should call the baby Jesus.

Journey to Bethlehem

Soon after the visit from the angel Mary and Joseph were married. Mary was soon due to have her baby.

They were told that they would have to pay tax to the Romans and that they would have to go to Bethlehem, where Joseph and his family came from to be taxed. They set out on the long journey with Mary riding on a donkey.
